On 15 November 2024, an update to the computer system that supports Family Violence Intervention Orders made in the Magistrates’ and Children’s Courts impacted printed orders. The update impacts copies of orders made between 15 November 2024 and 5 March 2025. Information about this issue is available on the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria website (External link).

All Family Violence Intervention Orders are still valid
All Family Violence Intervention Orders made during this period were validly made and remain in place.
The Victorian Government is making sure that respondents continue to comply with those orders, and that perpetrators are held to account.
The order of the Court is valid. Respondents must obey the conditions of the order made by the Court.
You do not need to return to court. Victoria Police will respond to alleged breaches of the order.
Government action
The Family Violence Protection Amendment Act 2025 came into effect on 18 March 2025. The Act ensures that all family violence orders issued are enforceable, regardless on the date they were served or whether they were impacted by the printing error.
The Victorian Government created and passed this legislation quickly to make sure that respondents continue to comply with orders, and that perpetrators are held to account.

If you think you have an impacted order, your order is valid and enforceable by Victoria Police. You do not need to take any further action.
