Specific matters considered
Update on Equal Opportunity Act and anti-vilification reforms
A representative of the Department of Justice and Community Safety provided an update on proposed amendments to the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. The amendments will narrow religious exceptions, making it unlawful for religious bodies and schools to discriminate against an employee because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or other protected attribute. Members were also updated on the Victorian Government’s reforms to respond to the Inquiry into Anti-Vilification Protections.
Update on implementation of conversion practices reforms
A representative from the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Right Commission provided an update on implementation of the Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act 2021.
Update on LGBTIQ+ Corrections Policy
A representative of the Department of Justice and Community Safety provided an update on the development of the LGBTIQ+ Corrections Policy.
Update on Sex Work Act reforms
A representative of the Department of Justice and Community Safety provided an update on the Sex Work Act reforms.
Discussion of forward agenda
Members discussed priorities for the final meeting of 2021, which also signals the end of the term of this Working Group. Further feedback will be gathered before finalising the remaining agenda.
Queries were raised around the language in the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Amendment Bill and consistency with the recent birth certificate reforms.
